In a restaurant, lighting is essential: beyond its functional purpose, it contributes significantly to the atmosphere of the space. In this article, we present the Design Radar solutions used in the newest restaurant in the north of Bucharest, “BOSCO – Gourmet Nest”, designed by the team of architect Victor Grosu.
ARCHITECTURAL RESTAURANT LIGHTING

The entire BOSCO - Gourmet Nest restaurant is furnished with a 2700K color temperature to create a warm and comfortable ambiance.
“It is the first HoReCa space we have created 100% with 2700K lighting. In an interior, it is essential that all sources have the same color temperature. In addition, all the chosen fixtures have low UGR, the light does not blind you, and it is comfortable,” explains Pavel Căruntu, CEO of Design Radar and the lighting project coordinator.
The lighting plan was conceived from the very beginning of the project; nothing was left to chance. This is the correct way of working for any lighting project, and we always recommend that our clients consider lighting solutions from the very beginning.

For ambient light, we used LED strip profiles placed around the perimeter of the ceiling. Also on the ceiling, 48V surface-mounted tracks with adjustable-angle spotlights provide additional light. The profiles for LED strips, with recessed diffusers, were mounted vertically on the wooden pillars as well. They are aesthetic even when the light is off, looking like minimalist black bands.

For task lighting, Shot Light S Trimless recessed spotlights from Arkoslight were used. These generate a perfectly defined beam of light, calculated to precisely illuminate the tabletops, as can be seen in the images above. They are easy to install, and their hidden frame makes them extremely minimalist.
As accent lighting, Black Foster Micro Surface 5 spotlights from Arkoslight, mounted on the ceiling, illuminate the natural wood shutters. They too are an almost imperceptible presence and provide precise light. The “Invisible Black” effect, which we often talk about, is patented by Arkoslight: it hides the light source and provides high visual comfort. Arkoslight fixtures have MacAdam 2 certification, a coefficient that guarantees light uniformity.
Also as accent lighting, Skip exterior adjustable spotlights from Arkoslight were used, which highlight the natural olive trees.
“Thanks to the Design Radar team and their maximum involvement, I can say that this restaurant has correct, state-of-the-art lighting. Behind it are hundreds of hours of discussions, debates, and struggles,” stated Victor Grosu.
For an extra touch of atmosphere, TeTaTeT Flûte portable lamps by Davide Groppi were used for the tables. This product is very suitable for restaurants because it has a magnetic base that can be hidden under the tablecloth, making the fixture appear to float. When the other lights are turned off and only these lamps remain, the atmosphere is intimate and special.

In the restrooms, recessed spotlights and very narrow 4mm LED strip profiles create comfortable lighting.
A type of light used, unfortunately, rarely, but extremely useful, is the “service light”: Shot Light Big recessed spotlights, with a 13 cm diameter and a 3000 lm luminous flux, turn on when the space is being cleaned.

DOORS & SHADOW GAP PROFILES
For steps and walls, Shadow Gap concealed baseboards from Design Radar were used, with an LED strip recessed in the step area to serve as guide lighting. These profiles delineate the wall from the floor in a minimalist and discreet way.

For the doors in the restroom area, we chose models from our supplier Albed - doors made in Italy. The Next pivot door, with two-way opening, was the ideal choice for the entrance to this area. It was finished with the same decorative material used for the walls and painted with floral elements and birds. For the restrooms, the flush-to-wall (filomuro) doors, also covered with decorative texture, create a minimalist ambiance.

We are happy to have been part of such a project and look forward to receiving new challenges from architects and interior designers! If you want to learn more about the solutions used, contact us!
